Dear Strand Fan,

Today we hosted visitors from across the country at the Strand.  We showed McFARLAND USA this morning in conjunction with the Cross Country Coaches National Youth Championships.   This event brought 1800 athletes plus spectators to Shelbyville!    We love having tour buses unload at the Strand!   Thank you to Gary Nolley and all the people that made this event possible.

Tonight our Hoosier Film Series continues with MOONDANCE (2020).   This musical comedy follows a rogue director who turns a run-of-the-mill Hollywood love story into a big band musical with the help of his crew and the out of the loop actors.  Written and directed by Huntington University alum and Indianapolis resident, Cooper Flanagan, the film features the Brokaw Movie House in Angola, Indiana. Additional scenes were filmed in South Bend, Goshen, and Huntington, Indiana.  We are proud to present this movie as part of our series.    Tickets are available at the door.

Saturday night CARL BENTELY BLUEGRASS takes the stage.  This concert will be filled with wonderful music.   Carl is a singer-songwriter, who is originally from Eastern Kentucky but now lives in New Palestine He will be releasing a new album sometime at the beginning of the new year.  Plenty of tickets are available, the concert starts at 7:30pm.

Next week our holiday schedule kicks off with ELF (2003) after Thanksgiving.   The schedule is:

ELF (2003)

Friday 11/25 7pm

Saturday 11/26 2pm

Saturday 11/26 7pm

Friday 12/2 7pm*  After the Holiday Parade

Saturday 12/3 2pm

Saturday 12/3 7pm

We also have a wonderful Holiday Variety Concert A CARPENTER’S CHRISTMAS on December 11.   While The Carpenters are known for over a dozen chart topping hits, they also won over their fans with their Christmas celebrations. Singer and playwright Lisa Rock and her 6-piece backing band are keeping The Carpenters’ holiday traditions alive and bringing their unforgettable Christmas songs to the stage.

Based on the music of The Carpenters’ two holiday albums and Christmas variety shows, A Carpenters Christmas and featuring “Merry Christmas Darling” and the jazzy “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” it’s a holiday concert that spreads joy and cheer to all.  The performance is Sunday December 11 at 7pm.  Tickets are available at the door, online, or at Shelbyville Paint.

Want to help?  We will be decorating the theater for the holidays this Tuesday starting at 6pm.   If you happen to have any old or unwanted decorations, we could use those too!  Our theater is big, and we love decorating every nook and cranny.

Just an update, we did get our lobby HVAC fixed.   $2100…uhg, but now it is nice and warm!   Our volunteers have been working hard to make sure the Strand is always ready and inviting for our patrons.    It looks like we will finish around 8 events this year.  Considering we didn’t start booking until March, we are pleased.  Next year we should be back to around 150 events.   This ingredient that makes this all work is you, we hope you can attend.

Thank you for the support.   See you at the Strand!
