Newsletter – 09/30/2022

Dear Strand Fan,

Saturday night October 1, 2022 we welcome back TODD McCOMAS.  Todd is a funny comedian from right here in Shelby County.   We are thrilled Todd is back to bring his funny brand of comedy to our stage.   There will be a bar at this event.   Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm.   Plenty of tickets are available.  You can purchase tickets at the door, online, or at Shelbyville Paint.   See you there!

Sunday October 2, 2022 we change things around and welcome the BLUE RIVER COMMUNITY CHOIR and THE BLUE RIVER YOUTH CHOIR for an afternoon of song.  They will be performing music that moves America.  Doors open at 2:30pm and the concert starts at 3pm.  This event is free.

The Strand is dark tonight.   We have an idea, go to the Shelbyville High School football game.  Not only do you support our local students, but the halftime show will be special.   The SHS Marching Band will perform music of Fleetwood Mac for their halftime tonight.   Imagine that!   It will be a preview of next week’s performance where the band joins FLEETWOOD GOLD at the Strand Theatre.    If you are going to hear Tusk, you need a marching band.  Good thing we’ve got one!   This is a great opportunity for our students to perform with professional musicians that tour nationally.   The artists are excited and encouraged this collaboration.    Check out the preview tonight, and join us on Saturday October 8 for the concert.   Tickets are available at the door, online, and at Shelbyville Paint.

Do you like YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974)?   You’re in luck, SAMMY TERRY will be hosting a Halloween Weekend Extravaganza Double Feature on October 29, 2022 at the Strand.   We will be showing YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN with Sammy as your host.   He will do stage shows before each film.  Be ghoulish and join us on October 29.  Costumes are encouraged!

We just added a Bluegrass Concert on November 19, 2022.   CARL BENTLEY will perform.   We are happy to have bluegrass music back on our stage.

9am – NOON

Time to do some repairs.  We scheduled a work session for tomorrow.   The major item to accomplish is to erect our scaffolding onstage to fix a broken condensate line from our north furnaces.   If you can help, we could really use it.    The job isn’t hard, but building the scaffolding takes a few people.

Speaking of HVAC repairs, our theft has manifested another problem.  We knew that after we recharged our freon we might have leaks.   As you can expect, the thieves were not gentle in removing the gas.   Sure enough this week our lobby AC failed.  No freon.   This is a job for professionals, and we are scheduled to get it fixed.   This is certainly no fun for our volunteers or organization.

We are happy to be back and working at a somewhat normal pace.   It has been a long two plus years.   We are still booking for 2023 and will have lots of variety for you next season.    As always we could not do this without your support.   Thank you!  See you at the Strand.
