Newsletter – 09/23/22

Dear Strand Fan,

REPARATION, the first film of our HOOSIER FILM SERIES will screen on Friday September 23, 2022.   There is some confusion on the start time of this event.   We will start at 7:30pm even though sometimes it says 7:00pm.   Sorry for the confusion.  Keeping all these things straight sometimes gets us confused!   We hope you can join in what will be a very interesting and entertaining evening.   The filmmaker KYLE HAMM will be in attendance and there will be a Q&A after the film.

Saturday September 24, 2022 we will present DIRTY DANCING (1987).   This is the 35th anniversary of this film’s release.   Before the movie STYLE DANCE ACADEMY with Special Guests will present LIVE DANCING on stage!   The Style Troupe will present a dance as well as someone connected with Style who has gained some national notoriety.   It will be a great start to an evening filled with dancing.   Tickets are available online or at the door. The program starts at 7:30pm.

Next week live comedy returns to the Strand’s stage.  TODD McCOMAS will perform on Saturday October 1, 2022.   He starts at 7:30pm.    We are looking forward to having a fun evening filled with laughter.  Tickets are available online, at the door, and at Shelbyville Paint.

On October 2, 2022 the two Blue River vocal organizations will be performing on our stage.   The BLUE RIVER COMMUNITY CHOIR will be joined by the BLUE RIVER YOUTH CHOIR to present  “MUSIC MOVES AMERICA.”   This concert will showcase a variety of American music through the singing talents of some of Shelby County’s young budding vocalists as well as more mature, seasoned stage performers.

Led by director Frances Jackson, the Blue River Community Choir is an adult performance group that has been bringing smiles to audiences for more than 25 years.  They would love to include you! Weekly rehearsals are open to all adults who love to share their musical talents throughout the community.  The Blue River Youth Choir formed in 2021 and is open to youth ages 8-17. They are excited to share their energy and joy of singing on the Strand’s stage.  The concert starts at 3pm and admission is free.

This week we had our annual inspection from the Department of Homeland Security (State Fire Marshal).   We work hard keeping the Strand neat, clean, and safe.    This year we had all our Covid improvements finished.   We are continually working and making the Strand as safe as it can be.   We will hopefully be re-starting our new fire exit project in 2023.   Each and every year the Strand’s clock is turned back and things become new again.   We appreciate the help and oversight and if you are curious, you can see our permit hanging in the lobby to the left of the exit door.

There are several inspections that need done to satisfy our Amusement and Entertainment Permit application.    These are all annual inspections.  We started with our fire extinguisher, our alarm company did a comprehensive inspection of the fire system, and we also had our exit doors inspected for mechanical function.   Everything came out well this year.   We did change our backup batteries in our alarm panel, but other than that, we were good to go.

October is going to be fun.   We have something for everyone, including YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN hosted by the every popular SAMMY TERRY.   We will have a double feature that night and will announce the second movie soon.  SAMMY will be doing two stage shows, one before each movie.   It is a throwback to the past, a halloween tradition, and always fun.  Come dressed up in you costume, we will!

Thank you for the support.   It is nice to be back in use again.   We look forward to seeing you at the Strand!
