Dear Strand Fan,

ONE NIGHT WITH ELVIS this Saturday September 3, 2022.   When Elvis left the building in 2019 little did we know the troubles ahead.   Those are hopefully behind us, so come out and enjoy Brad McCrady as Elvis Presley live on stage.   Brad puts on a great show and we look forward to having him back at the Strand.   Tickets are available at the door, online, or at Shelbyville Paint.     The concert starts at 7:30pm.

Friday Night Frights kicks off September tonight September 2, 2022.   THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (1964).    You might recall we did Last Woman on Earth earlier, it is only fair…   This film  is a 1964 post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film based on the 1954 novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. The film was produced by Robert L. Lippert and directed by Ubaldo Ragona and Sidney Salkow, and stars Vincent Price and Franca Bettoia. The screenplay was written in part by Matheson, but he was dissatisfied with the result and chose to be credited as “Logan Swanson”. William Leicester, Furio M. Monetti, and Ubaldo Ragona finished the script.   The movie starts at 7:30pm and ticket are available at the door.

This week the Strand volunteers were busy.   Next season is taking shape.   We met with the Indianapolis Opera about opportunities in 2023.   We also talked with several other performance groups from across the country hoping to book into the Strand next year.    2023 will take us yet another step closer to normal.

We also met with the group that is producing ADDICT’S WAKE – A DOCUMENTARY OF HOPE.   This event is Tuesday September 13, 2022 and is free, everyone is welcome.   We will be screening this powerful film and having a panel discussion with the filmmakers afterwards.    The Strand is partnering with Next Level Recovery, Indiana Council of Community Health Centers, and Anthem Insurance to present this program.    Thank you to our friends at Cabello Associates for facilitating this program.    The meeting went well and we will be ready for a transformational evening at the theater.

Our next meeting was for programming on Saturday October 19.   We are getting ready to announce something special, stay tuned!

We also met with contractors for an upcoming project.   In July a patron asked why we didn’t have powered opening doors with handicap buttons.   We told her that was on our wish list of projects.   Well that wish has been granted.   The Strand will soon have exterior doors that will open for the handicap or anyone needing assistance.   We will give more details as they become available.    Angels are all around us!

Finally it is inspection time at the Strand.  Each and every year we have our safety items inspected and certified.  This includes our fire extinguishers and alarm system.   So far so good, but these things just take time and coordination.   As you know we are all volunteers, so any trip to the theater requires appointment times, getting off work etc.

Notice how great the marquee looks since the LED upgrade?  We get tickled every time we drive by it at night.   Now to get a vertical sign…

We are dark on Sunday, but that is OK.  Shelby County Cornstalk, a day filled with free concerts on the public square, is on Sunday September 4.   Help support live music in Shelby County .

We hope to see you at ONE NIGHT WITH ELVIS on Saturday night.   We take our core values seriously:  Quality of Life, Community Self Esteem, Economic Vitality, Artistic Freedom.     We are hitting on all cylinders again, and happy to be in downtown Shelbyville in the heart of Shelby County.   Thank you for your support.   See you at the Strand.
