Dear Strand Fan,

E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial

June 23, 2020

Gate opens at 6pm

Film starts at Dusk

$8 , $4 age 3-11, under 3 free

Tonight the Strand hosts our first event since March 8, 2020.   We will kick off our abbreviated Strand Summer Movie Series with the showing of E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial.   Since we are closed the Skyline Drive-In has graciously lent their facility to the Strand.   Our volunteers will be there just like any other Strand event.    It will be a fun night and we are happy to be doing what we are tasked to do…provide entertainment to our community.

If you haven’t been to the drive-in for a while, here is the drill.   You will come into the gate, that is where the ticket stand is located.   After you pay you can park anywhere in front of the screen.  Many people bring lawn chairs and portable radios.   The audio for the film is broadcast over your FM car radio.   If you prefer the Skyline has portable radios to rent for only $3.   Those can be rented at the concessions stand.

After you sit back and get comfortable you really need to check out the bevy of choices at the concessions stand.   You can purchase a on tap GREEN RIVER SODA:

Green River soda was first created in 1916 Davenport, Iowa, by Richard C. Jones, who owned a local confectionary shop. In 1919, Jones sold his recipe to the Schoenhofen Edelweiss Brewing Company of Chicago Prior to 1920, the brewery produced the popular Edelweiss beer. Schoenhofen began manufacturing Green River and other soft drinks in order to survive the Prohibition Era.  It was also made by the Sweetwater Brewery in Green River, Wyoming.

It was popular as a soda fountain syrup, trailing only Coca-Cola in popularity throughout the Midwest.   After Prohibition ended in 1933, the Schoenhofen Brewery continued to manufacture Green River, while resuming the production of alcoholic beverages.

You can also try CHEERWINE on tap:

Cheerwine is a cherry-flavored soft drink by Carolina Beverage Corporation of Salisbury, North Carolina. It has been produced since 1917, claiming to be “the oldest continuing soft drink company still run by the same family.”

When you are done having Green River and Cheerwine, move to Indiana’s favorite TRIPLE X ROOT BEER on tap:

In the 1920’s, close to 100 Triple XXX Thirst Stations dotted the landscape along the United States and Canada, with over 150 bottlers producing the frothy product. It wasn’t just road warriors consuming Triple XXX Root Beer—you would’ve also found the soft drink for sale on Mississippi steamers.

As you can see, the Skyline is a bit quirky in their selections.    The rest of the food is equally as good.    (Please note no outside food or drink at the Skyline)

Tonight we will have a raffle with items provided by Strand Fan Kurtis Britts.   Kurtis is a Friday Night Frights regular.   He gave us a great prize package for tonight.   A serious film fan, Kurtis put together an E.T. doll, a book on director Steven Spielberg, the original novel from the Speilberg film JAWS, and (our personal favorite) a bag of Reece’s Pieces.    Thank you Kurtis!

See you tonight.

Thank you to all who stopped by for our Drive Up Popcorn sale at the Strand last Friday.   We sold $675.   Actually not a lot of popcorn was sold, but many of you donated, often giving us much more than the $5 popcorn.    THANK YOU!   We live in a great community.
