Dear Strand Fan,
We have a busy Saturday August 27, 2022. First up is a work session. This will be upgrading the final marquee panel to LED. As you might have noticed the marquee lights look better than ever. The LEDs are smooth warm light. Four of the panels are finished. The final panel, the front north panel, will be finished during our work session. This is a huge project and we are proud to have accomplished this work. The savings is over $10,000 by doing the work ourselves. We will also return to the dressing room to put final details on that project. We have painting to do, some trim work, and building a couple of access panels. We could use your help. The work session is from 9am-noon on Saturday August 27.
We have to finish our work session on time because we have a matinee at 2pm! The Skyline Drive-In hosts their SUPER MONSTER MOVIE FEST this weekend. It is a fun-filled event. The matinee, in the bright sunlight, is perfect in the dark Strand auditorium. We will be showing GORGO (1961). The story is about a ship’s captain and his pearl diving crew who, with other fishermen on an island and an orphaned boy, discover and capture a gigantic amphibious sea creature and take it to London for public exhibition. This results in the creature’s much larger mother invading London in search of her offspring, causing catastrophic destruction across the city. Tickets are available at the door.
Just as they say on TV…but wait, there’s more! On Saturday night, by popular demand, we are showing XANADU (1980) starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. If you haven’t seen it, or at least not in the past 40 years, get your leggings on and come to the Strand. Not many of us remember the film, but we all know the soundtrack. Shelbyville High School did the stage version of this musical last year, so if you saw it then, now is the time to see the original. We are planning on another Olivia Newton-John music video before the show and more. The movie starts at 7:30pm and will be a ton of fun. We hope you can make it. Tickets are available at the door.
Extending the dance theme, did you know that DIRTY DANCING is 35 years old this year? We couldn’t resist and booked the film for September 24. As you all know the Strand is mainly about live entertainment. Showing a dance movie would not be complete without dancing on our stage. Step is STYLE DANCE ACADEMY. Style Dance Academy is located in Franklin. IN. The studio is celebrating its 24th year. The Style Performing Company is made up of over 150 students ages 3 to 18. The dancers have brought home National Titles for the past 15 years. They are thrilled to be able to perform “Do You Love Me?” from DIRTY DANCING.
Elvis…has entered the building! ONE NIGHT WITH ELVIS featuring Brad McCrady will be on stage Saturday September 3, 2022. This concert will feature all Elvis music you know and love. This was one of those concerts that was booked for 2020 that had to be canceled due to the pandemic. It has been a long time, but we are finally happy to welcome Brad and his band back to the Strand’s stage. Tickets are available at the door, online, or at Shelbyville Paint.
With our recent insurance loss due to theft, we received a letter informing us of some changes in our insurance. This was quite concerning to us. Thank you to McNeely Law for an excellent legal review. Thank you for Duffy Warble Insurance for championing our position. It all worked out for the best!
